Then let the developers pay to move the depot. Taylor has decided to use MCPS Capital Budget money.

The Shady Grove site isn't MCPS property. MCPS is basically being evicted by the county, which completely makes sense. It is a huge waste of land next to a metro station. The two new spots make much more sense.

In addition to the fact that they want to put it smack in the middle of a residential neighborhood, there are significant environmental issues specific to that site that they would have to be addressed first. It's also zoned R-200 which is residential.

Put this on the county council and vote accordingly.

I was confused by the CIP mentioning putting the bus depots at other sites (like the elementary school site), but the County website says the depot is going to a Warehouse area that they've already leased.

It does not say that. It says “locate the maintenance and training functions” only.

Ah, that explains it. Thanks.

Then let the developers pay to move the depot. Taylor has decided to use MCPS Capital Budget money.

This, developers should pay.

Are they being gifted the land?

No

Take it up with the County Council; they've wanted that space forever and they finally found a place to relocate the depot. My assumption is that this speeds up the timeline than trying to find a developer willing to front that money on an uncertain timeline in a high interest rate environment.

On Tuesday the County Council will approve Taylor’s plan to spend $70M on moving a bus depot so developers can build condos. That $70M could have paid for school mold remediation or school bathroom repairs.
