Subject: Hopkins or UVA or Georgetown
My kid is a Politics major. Not Echols. Zero issues.
He chose UVA over an Ivy and Georgetown. 30somethingK vs 90somthingK. It is just too big a difference.

Just pick the one your child likes the best after the admitted student days. It sounds like cost is not a major consideration for you.

Echols and scholars are only about 5% of the incoming class - so about 200 students out of 4000. Yes, they get priority in registering, but it is a very small group of kids and they are are in all different majors. My son is a 3rd year at UVA and has had a great experience. He is Echols, though, so I can't speak to the class selection part.

The thing about UVA is that it reminds me a lot of our public school system in that aspect—who gets priority. We saw a much more level playing field at other kid’s Ivy. Things were awarded in a much more merit-based manner in the department.
