I get volunteers every spring and put them in pots. When they get too big, I stick in the ground. They keep multiplying.

The dwarf varieties are suited to containers, though the bound roots will keep any variety small. Consider small varieties of smooth hydrangea, like Invicnibell Wee White; bigleaf dwarfs like Rhaphsody Blue, Wee Bit "Giddy" or "Grumpy"; dwarf paniculata like BoBo, little quickfire, little lime; or training varieties like Fairytrail Bride; or mountain hydrangea "Little Tough Stuff."

I have a few in pots, and the key is to keep them very well watered.

DP - is there a specific variety that works best in containers?

We have deer everywhere and can’t fence our yard in but we have a deck that deer can’t reach. We love hydrangeas - are there any hydrangeas you can recommend that would work in containers ? Or are they an ‘in the ground’ only flower? Thx!
