I saw sod delivered on a new build this week. all rolled up. I am guessing if you are a building selling a house right now, yes the sod goes in.

They are afraid the homeowner will not water the grass per the instructions. This will cause grass to die and customer ti blame supplier.

Spring for seed, fall for sod.

Our Spring weather is too inconsistent to get roots to grow to the point it will survive summer heat. Sod or any kind of seeding has to be in Fall if you want it to have a shot at lasting.

If they’re a reputable companies that offers a guarantee, of course they won’t install in April. You will need to water incessantly all summer to keep it alive, and when you don’t and the grass dies, you’ll be calling them to re-sod at their cost.

Fall really is the best time to plant grass in this area. If you find someone to plant in the spring, you have to be very diligent in watering it as PP said.

Meant to add - they're too busy with existing contracts and are turning down your money, OP. You need to call around and maybe find a smaller company... or do it yourself!

I'd follow the advice of people who live and work in this area. Or just pay the guy who will do it now and then pay someone to do it again next autumn.

It could get really hot and dry fast or wet and hot and it till dry or rot. They have experience and want to install in grass dormant season and not right now.

Four different vendors gave bids on sod install on a 30,000 sqaure foot lot in Mclean.Three of the four said to wait until October. The internet says they are wrong. April is prefect time for sod.

Is sod low profit margin? Am I really supposed to just deal with a muddy lot for 6 months? What is this all about?
