I got both my niece really nice picnic baskets
with built in cooler and cute accessories like little tablecloth and napkins, a corkscrew.

Agree, I don't see a need unless that's part of your culture. You'll be hit up for shower and wedding gifts, don't worry lol.

I would not get anyone anything they will need to dust. People just don't want these things that much these days, and want to pick out their own decor.

How many clocks do you need and how many times have you been engaged?

Hahahah I meant that I love “to get people clocks for engagement gifts”
Just an idea - I think it’s a bit creative and out of the ordinary and everyone can use a decorative nice clock!

I hope you are kidding.

It has never occurred to me to get anyone an engagement gift.

Obviously it depends on your relationship with the couple, but personally I would not (and have not) given engagement gifts to my nieces and nephews. I give a shower gift if I am invited to one and a wedding gift whether or not I am invited to the wedding. (One nephew had a very small wedding with just parents, siblings, and a few close friends.)

They don’t live nearby so I can’t take them for a celebratiry meal.

I was thinking to send a bottle of champagne or wine (although not sure how easy it is to ship alcohol).

Send a card and flowers or take them out for a lunch but wait for the wedding to give a gift.

My niece just got engaged. She and her fiance are almost sge 30, own a home and a dog together, and have good jobs (they seem to have more discretionary spending than I do, haha).

Any ideas of something to send as an engagement gift? They are not registered and I asked my brother what they might like and he had no ideas.
