NP. The Seldom Scene did a great cover of that, but it's not a kid's song. See also their great Old Train and their cover of City of New Orleans. But again, not kids' songs.

We had a whole CD of train songs when my son was young but this one isn’t ringing bells for me.
It’s not John Denver’s daddy what’s a train, is it? If you can remember any other words I might be able to help.

This is adorable. There are a few reddit groups for trying to name songs--if you don't have luck here, might want to try there.

Maybe it was from Hap Palmer's "Baby Songs" DVDs and CDs? I remember there was a song about trains...

This isn't it, but it's a sweet song. Thanks for the link!

Also not Charlie on the MTA -- but thanks for the a cappella memories.

Finally, to the sleuthing poster who asked what happened to the cassette -- We have no idea, nor can any of us remember the name of the group or the names of any other songs on the cassette.

What happened to the cassette? What was on the cover? Was it professionally produced or indie (guessing indie)?

My son is getting married in September. Both our family and the bride's family include many musicians, so as part of the rehearsal dinner, we will join together to perform a medley of their favorite songs growing up. (Lest you are on the verge of freaking out, the engaged couple are totally ok with this). I'm trying to find a song that my son loved to listen to back in the '90s. It was on a cassette that we might have purchased at a craft fair in New England. The song was about a boy who loved trains. It might have had a refrain about "the boy on the railroad line". This is all that any of us remember about it.

DC Urban Moms of a certain age -- can you name that tune?
