OP here - yes, Martha's Table looks like a great option. It looks like 15+ can volunteer without a parent. We too live in Alexandria, and the Alive! parent requirement for under 18 volunteers is really limiting.

Thanks for this! Do these take place at the school locations listed on their calendar? Trying to assess whether I would be the one providing transportation, as not all of them are close to a Metro (though I'm sure many are close to busses.)

Do you have to be 18 or have a parent? I know you do with ALIVE in Alexandria at their food distribution centers

https://volunteer.fairfaxcounty.gov/custom/1380/opp_details/179415 The youth also help with programs throughout the year, but I believe they allow just summer camp volunteers as long as you do 2-3 weeks.

My 17yo rising junior wants to do a good bit of volunteer work this summer - preferably in the food assistance or environmental areas. She will be out of town for a lot of the summer working at a sleepaway camp, so she is looking for volunteer work that is more concentrated for a week or two. Does anyone know of organizations that might need something like this? TIA.
