Close them up in a room away from the chaos. Move their litter box, food, and their bed/mat/blanket that smells like you in there too. Let them out when the workers have gone home, assuming there are no holes cut into walls, cabinets, flooring -- places where the can can get in and can't get out.

This. I'm having some work done and my cat hasn't come out from under the bed. I moved a litter box into the attached bathroom and shut the door for her own sake.

A cat is fine in the master bedroom for a few days.

Put them in a room and do not open the door during time while work is ongoing and until you have checked work area. Put masking tape across door an No Entry signs.

The cat will probably not be pleased with the construction so put away during the day will be best for all.

So someone I know accidentally drywalled over a hiding or sleeping cat. Took them a while to figure out the cat was in the wall and not the vents. They had to cut a hole to get the cat out and redo a section of drywall.

We need to have some work done in our house, including redoing the kitchen floor, painting, etc. How do we handle this with a cat? We feel badly locking him in a bathroom for several days. DH suggested boarding him somewhere, but the thought of sending him away made me so sad.
