These are good tips. Keep an ear out about any neighborhood yard sales ... there are often bikes for sale in our neighborhood in the spring!

We love our kids' Guardian bikes. They taught themselves how to ride them. No parent work required, that's a win in my book!

Unfortunately Target/Walmart/etc. bikes tend to be crappy with misaligned parts. They shouldn't be for the cost. Just low quality companies.

We had trouble reselling our nice bikes so they got given away. Ask people you know.

Look up the method where you take off the pedals to learn. So much better than training wheels!

It depends on the size of your kid. We got the less expensive REI kids bike over the Woom. Online the weight difference wasn’t huge. My kid hated riding and wouldn’t give up training wheels. Borrowed a friends woom for a weekend and boom, it was like magic. Rode without training wheels within 30 minutes

Literally any bike is fine for the purposes of learning and riding around the neighborhood for a 7 yr old. Don’t be duped into thinking you need a Woom or the like for this

We got used Wooms for the kids. Very easy to learn to ride without any training wheels. Used as a balance bike for a few weeks and they got it. Bikes are so light. We get them on fb marketplace or buy sell groups and then I've sold the outgrown ones back.

Nishiki at Dick's will be good. Better than a Huffy from walmart and you don't need a Trek/Cannondale/Guardian type bike if you are not an avid biking family.

My tall 7-year-old is looking for a new bike and is also learning how to ride without training wheels. Do you have any bike recommendations? We’re hoping to find something affordable, as we don’t ride enough to justify spending $400–$500. Ideally, we’re looking in the $200–$300 range for something safe and durable. She prefers handlebars that are higher rather than lower. Please let us know if you have any recommendations!
