We're just making sure the car isn't parked under a tree and keeping an eye on the weather tomorrow. We have never had an outage that lasted more than an hour or two in ten years living her, so my only concern is making sure we are safe at home or school and not driving if something severe happens.

Just popping in to say that this made me smile. I've been meaning to get one for my two little dogs for a couple of years.

Freezing some extra ice packs. Our power basically never goes out, and gets restored quickly when it does, but it's easy enough to have cold packs frozen just in case I need to pop them in the fridge.
I'll make sure our water pitchers are full too.

I’m prepping the same way Kevin did in Home Alone.

Fueling up all the vehicles
Grabbing $10,000 cash out of the bank
Double checking all firearms and ammo
Running the whole house generator through it’s cycle
Making sure the dogs are ready to attack on command
Surveillance system checked
Booby traps set
Go bag ready
Secret escape hatch in working order
M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams parked in yard

Charging devices overnight.

Bringing in outdoor furniture.

Baking a lot of treats (chocolate cake, brownies, chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, blueberry muffins, etc.).

Cooking items that can be eaten cold, if necessary.

Making sure we have sufficient pillows and blankets in the basement guest room and adjacent tv room in case we need to head to the basement. Also making sure the basement bathroom has sufficient toilet paper.

Lastly: I’m trying to figure out how to avoid commuting downtown tomorrow since it seems that the evening commute could be brutal.

Nothing.

Bring in anything that can fly around.
If you don’t have a garage, try to park your car somewhere safe.
Charge your devices. If you don’t have a backup battery or portable power station—they are really handy. They have them at Auto Zone.
Buy a bit of food you don’t need to cook or keep cold.
Have a couple of jugs of water.
Eat anything expensive you have in your freezer for dinner tonight.
Get flashlights ready.

Put heavy things that are outside inside - patio furniture, grills, trash cans …

I’m not doing anything to prep. I guess I could fill out tub with water tomorrow. If we lose power, we lose power.

If it’s anything like they’re saying we’re in for massive power outages across the area. How are you all prepping?

I’m about to go grocery shopping but hesitant that stuff may spoil (I have overhead lines that are prone to go out in high winds)… also wondering what I’ll do about work if it’s prolonged.
