Athleta has petite sizes. The Endless pants are great for work and travel. As a fellow petite, I find coats especially difficult and Athleta does have options in that department as well.

Extra Petite is truly petite like you. Also, Pumps and Pushups is another instagrammer/blogger who is truly petite. Both seem to have a clean, preppy style.

I’m hesitant to buy online.

If you’re petite- where do you shop?

This I me to a T.

I like Loft or Banana Republic.

I get my clothing tailored. I routinely shorten pant legs, shirt hems, and sleeves. I buy pants that are designed to be cropped but on me are full length pants (check the stated inseam on the listing). I'm mindful to avoid built in designs that suggest a certain height (for example, denim that has fading at the knee that I know won't line up with my knees).

When I needed work wear, I would shop at Theory and LOFT with some basics from J Crew mixed in. I used to buy J Crew coats as well. I have no idea about quality and fit recently though. I kind of don’t buy clothing anywhere anymore because it all looks ridiculous.

Solidarity because it is so hard!! I’m 5’4” and about 110 at 40yo and I struggle so much with clothes. I agree on Theory, I also will do Banana Republic, J. Crew, and have a Nordstrom stylist help. The challenge is that even if the above brands sometimes things are still cut too wide. I have had decent success with Abercrombie (I know - I cringed too) but they’re cut more narrowly and have short sizes. Some things look too young, but many things work.

Uniqlo has U.S. stores and online retail. It is the Old Navy of Japan. It has a lot of basics.

Some of their merch can be considered preppy because it's basics.

Their men's clothes are cut slim.

Have you looked at Talbots for basics? Their solid color clothes are usually fairly classic.

I tend to shop at these brands and am a similar height and weight:

Hobbs London
Holebrook Sweden
La Ligne
Theory
Reiss

I do tend to tailor pants though, they are hard to get in short lengths. Also I need to hem long dresses. A good tailor is your friend.

What are Asian brands? The junior department is too cheaply made/ young looking for me. I’m late 30s and need professional clothes for the office and also fun weekend wear.

Also- so many styles are flowy and ruffled this season. Which looks a bit overwhelming when the size is already too big.
