Will CJ continue to be split articulation in the new setup? (Or will Hoover become split articulation?). I recall there was split articulation in the earlier proposals but not sure where things landed.

Very very few could answer that question. We are not middle schoolers, nor do we attend both schools and compare. I would assume they’re the same- these kids live close to each other.

Both my kids found great friends at Hoover, but I’m sure they would have also found them at CJ. Just find the home you like and go for it. Both are good.

Anyone else have any thoughts? Is one friendlier than the other?

Not sure about chorus or about cabin John. It theater at Hoover is top notch- crazy impressive for MS. My daughter participated for 3 yrs and it was a phenomenal production every time. Large cast, amazing theater director, super professional quality show.

Hoover has really hollowed out its music program in the last few years. The theater program (after school club is great and active) but the chorus, not so much. On the other hand, Cabin John chorus is pretty amazing. I've seen both because my kid is now at Churchill and MSs join some concerts. There's not comparison. CJ chorus went to some national invitational in Rhode Island this winter.

Try to attend events at both schools: international nights, theatre productions. Bring your son. ASK HIM. Trust his gut feeling.

really? this sounds like we are talking about college.

As a Churchill graduate who attended Cabin John in the late 90s and who’s kids are currently districted to and I’d imagine most likely going to to Hoover, Ill share my two cents. I’d imagine both are pretty similar. Back in the 90s and through today, CJMS has had a split which back then was closer to 65/35 in favor of Wootton, so that was a negative to lose friends. I believe currently it’s closer to 50/50. With the proposed changes both will be more lopsided for Churchill, and while geographically I get why they did it that way, I’d hate to be a Travilah family as they’ll be like 20% going to Wootton. Perhaps that changes in the future.

Otherwise I’d say equal

More similar than not. What high school does your choice feed in? It seems like more Hoover kids go to Churchill, which is excellent. Cabin John has a decent amount that go to Wootton. Having been at both schools, Hoover seems to have make discipline problems. Excellent teachers and staff at both. Theater good at Hoover too.

I am a parent from a past Hoover child. We loved the school, but truly I can’t compare it to Cavin John. I’m sure that’s also excellent. Hoover puts on big theater productions, so your child would have opportunities.

I can't speak to Cabin John, but I am a former staff member of Hoover. During my time, they offered a plethora of before school and afterschool clubs and a theatre production. The PTA was super dedicated and collaborative with staff. I can't imagine that has changed. It is regarded as one of the top middle schools in Maryland for good reason.

Tell me the differences. Is one better than the other for chorus and theatre/drama?
Is one academically more stressful?
Appreciate feedback. Thank you.
