I am old. Went to a nice, suburban school. There were fights. I don't recall any physical girl fights, but there were definitely boys who fought.

Nothing new at all. I’m 50 and I remember the girl fights being more vicious than the boy fights. The difference is that no one could record anything back then.


Exactly this. I grew up in upper middle class, mostly white suburbs and there were fights. Boys and girls. Some as vicious as this one, just no-one has a record of them. The difference, however, is that there was discipline. These girls probably won't even get suspended.

The messaging was atrocious - they need to address the fighting. My daughter showed me this video, it was horrible.

There is a cadre of parents who want to protect the old reputation of Carson (gen of FCPS middle schools, TJ feeder) at any cost that they are unwilling to accept that it is simply no longer the case. You all pipe in any time someone dares to criticize. You know it is okay to demand better?


I could care less about Carson’s reputation. My kid is having a great experience there and has not seen the fights and the like. He has friends who have. I know the age and that this is not abnormal. What is new is adding the videotaping of the fights because of cell phones. I don’t know where you went to MS and HS but fighting in school happens, this has always been the case, at schools in the US.

I wish that the schools would return to more discipline in all level of schools but schools changed what they were doing because people complained about who was being punished. Too many White, MC, and UMC were being let off with warnings and detentions, because parents challenged suspensions, while more minorities and poor kids were being suspended, because parents were less likely to challenge suspensions. The optics looked like crap so instead of suspending more White and rich kids, they stopped disciplining all kids.

True, there have always been fights and middle school is the time where these issues peak. Now there's a serious push to get everyone through middle school at their assigned school in FCPS. Getting a kid placed into a middle school CSS is nearly impossible unless there's a serious assault that leaves someone badly injured or a weapon involved. High schools are much quicker to do it. There are all kinds of alternate programs where the kids with behavior problems are placed.

Well, a good portion of Franklin will likely be at Skyview. You seem to be forgetting that.
