Phs magnet programs over admit especially when one student gets Multiple magnet offers. So for smcs program with 60 seats, they will initially admit easily over 100 students. So If one student says no to a Program that doesn’t automatically indicate a free Open space. That being said, Getting off the waitlist can happen, but I wouldn’t expect to put much hope into it after the end of April, when the chances decrease substantially. Good luck! -signed a parent of two phs magnet students

I think as other have mentioned - it’s on a rolling basis. Unfortunately - there are no rank or order numbers so you have no idea where your kid stands on the wait list. Hope for the best!

Good luck My daughter is a senior in SMCS there now. It's an amazing school. She was invited to all three houses but decided to chose SMCS which opened up two spots for the other houses. That will likely happen for other students so hopefully something with open up. The teachers are amazing and it's a wonderful community. Poolesville seems far, but in the past four years of driving there so many times, I've never hit bad traffic. It's a beautiful drive actually. Wishing the best for your kid. My daughter found her tribe there. But, I wish she was in first grade again.

My DC was on the waitlist for GE and was offered a spot today.

The movement off the waitlist depends on the program. Global and Humanities normally have decent movement. SMCS less so. They pull from the waitlist in batches, and the magnet secretary may have the dates of when that happens. Poolesville is fantastic, best of luck.

Kid can get off waitlist, even through the summer. You can also call the school/magnet coordinator for more info.
