There can be a lot of back and forth with the financial aid office of the ED school which takes several weeks. We had to get multiple extensions before they finally agreed with us. During that time, DC kept all apps open in case things did not work out with the FA office

Only private high schools

Very common esp at public high schools where colleges can’t/won’t do anything due to lack of influence from college counseling

Some Universities will stop allowing ED apps from the schools attended by these students.

Private schools will check up to ask if you've withdrawn. I suppose you could still lie but there is communication between counselors and reps so it's possible you'd be found out.

There is a lot less anonymity from privates.
