My relatives in Asia are really obsessed with astigmatism and myopia treatment and I live in a suburb that’s mostly 1st gen Asian and we have so many treatment places. I’m fascinated by it but think that glasses are probably the best option.

+1

Almost everyone in the world has astigmatism, OP.

OrthoK is a terrible idea. But maybe you should see an Ophthalmologist so they can tell that in person.

I think for some reason you are opposed to glasses, but they would be a real gift to your child.

I am not opposed to glasses at all but this eye dr framed it as my child is really too old now to correct her astigmatism and maybe glasses will help but it’s unlikely. I’d just like another doctors opinion on the situation, and options. Ideally I want my child’s astigmatism to be corrected or at least not get worse.

Ortho-K isn't a permanent fix. It is temporary. Based on this info from AAO, it won't "fix" the issue.

I also don't understand how a doctor said "maybe glasses will help." Yes, glasses will help even without myopia.

Hard contact lenses can stabilize eye shape so the astigmatism doesn't worsen.

This just isn’t true. My nephew uses this treatment instead of glasses. So does my friends daughter. Both have had really good results with their kids vision during the day and no need for glasses.

NP. The usual treatment is eyeglasses. Never heard of the other thing. I have an astigmatism. They are not really unusual.

Not true. I can see there are other options like Ortho-k treatment which is wearing contacts at night. I’m interested in a second opinion to see other treatment options.

Any recs of an opthomologist to treat an 8 year olds astigmatism? It was discovered by a regular eye doctor who recommends glasses, but just wondering if I should get a second opinion from a pediatric opthomologist.
