Check reviews carefully. A year or so ago one of the Universal resorts had a bad bed bug outbreak. I can’t remember which one, think it may have been Cabana Bay. You can google it and check FB and Reddit.

We stayed at the Royal Pacific. Loved it. Wish prices were not so Astronomical now.

+1 to the bold. We stayed at the Lego Hotel in NY, and the theming was over the top and everywhere. Really well done.

We also had a great time at Cabana Bay. It was great for the price point and the kids had a ton of fun. The pool was great. I can't say I felt immersed in the theme, but that's not why we choose it.

The hotel has lots of elements from the theme, including room decor, colors, hotel decorations, restaurant themes and offerings, the pools, but I wouldn’t describe the feeling as “engulfed”.

In any case, we had a great time, the pools were great and even though we were there for spring break and the hotel was busy, it didn’t feel crowded.

Booked at the cabana bay cause wanted a family suite and a kitchenette. The location was a pleasant 15 minute walk to the park, or same, a 15 minute ride with the water shuttle from sapphire.

I stayed at The Graduate in Providence, RI.

I suppose it was slightly RISD-themed. I enjoyed the weird decor (chandelier lamp shaped like a giant clamshell). And I guess we got some extra keycards with pics of David Byrne. To me that's not heavy theming. Just quirky decor. That's the only one from that chain that has been a good value to visit when we've passed through.

Someone please tell me how Minions carry out a Portofino Italy theme so I don't have to watch a dumb movie.

Hard Rock is the closest and such an easy walk. I choose it for that alone. It also has the nicest pool/pool bar IMHO. The Royal Pacific is the second closest and does have that list tropical feel. But it felt more crowded to me, especially the pool.

Dockside was nice for the price, we did the family suite with the separate sleeping area. It’s not really immersive, that’s what the theme park is for

I’ve stayed at Portofino Bay and Sapphire Falls.

I admit I didn’t explore Sapphire Falls much, but our wing was directly between the lobby and park transportation and from those two points it was very generically themed. Could have been any hotel.

Portofino Bay on the other hand was very immersive. It’s tucked further away from the other resorts and the convention area is tucked away. I think they do a better job making you feel like you’re not in central Florida. The walk around the bay to the boat service is lovely. The actually rooms aren’t heavily themed, though. Like if you turn over the soap dish it says “made in Italy” and there are pictures of Italy on the wall.

We’ve stayed at Royal pacific and hard rock. Hard rock is like any hard rock. I find the vibe too busy and not relaxing but a lot of peolel like it. We like Royal pacific which has a fake Hawaii beach vibe. I don’t think the Jurassic park rooms are any great shakes — they just have stuff painted on the walls. We stayed in the minions family suite once. It was not particularly memorable but we wanted the family suite.

Note that Helios and the new park are not really close to the old parks. You can walk from hard rock or RP easily to the old parks and to city walk. The restaurant at Helios is supposed to be very good. Helios looks nice from outside but I heard it is really expensive and not clear if it’s worth all that. It’s right in the park so you can probably see rides from rooms.

I’ll start by saying I am the TWA poster too. I’m looking for a themed hotel experience that’s fun for adults and kids.

I’ve never stayed at one and keep seeing them online. I’d love to take a trip to one.
