I wouldn't call the area near the Wiehle Metro Station as rough. Have you been?

Parts of South Reston are iffy. Most of Reston is nice or super nice (North Reston).

IKR I rarely go to Reston, but the number of times I've been there it looked like a typical suburban clean, manicured and well taken of area. The town center is also nice and there isn't any obvious social decay I've noticed there to even imply it could be "rough" I don't live anywhere near there and have zero investment in it to fluff it up. Just my honest opinion as a passer by

What about a town home in West Springfield?

I'm very familiar with that intersection that TH backs up to and it is a VERY busy intersection. I'd be sure to go back and check it out during rush hour or around the time the MS/HS lets out considering the proximity to South Lakes and Hughes. It gets backed up and loud multiple times throughout the day.

You're also "close" but not really going to get any of the advantages of lake living/views or Metro access - you still have to drive to the Metro. Although it's close, I wouldn't consider that stretch of road "walkable."

For that price or much less, you can get much more and newer construction than that cluster in other areas that still give you great access to Tysons. North Reston is nicer and just as convenient as well as many neighborhoods in North Herndon that are adjacent to Route 7.

I had been in the nearby community for my kid's swim training, the lake is a nice amenity to have, but not sure if accessible to the people who aren't facing the lake. There also appeared to always be people walking on trails along the sun valley road, although I don't see how you would cross easily. Overall, it's a nice looking neighborhood and super convenient to Reston and drivable to Tysons along the Leesburg pike. I wouldn't choose it for the daily commute to DC though. With Tysons you have an option to drive. I also don't see how you can walk to the metro, it doesn't look to be a community built for human scale walking around (outside of the master planned trails).

Hard pass. Have you looked at how many registered sex offenders live in that neighborhood? You can search it free online.

I live in Reston and know that neighborhood. While the neighborhood is nice, the location of that particular house isn't ideal. The houses on the lake are the best obviously, but the streets behind the lakefront row are very cramped and there isn't much open space. That house backs to the corner of Sunrise Valley Drive and South Lakes Dr. Although titled "Drives", they are actually 4 lane commuter roads with office buildings and retail all along them with a few neighborhood entrances. Sunrise Valley is also not very crossable from the entrance to the neighborhood.

Reston has many, many townhouse communities that I would choose over that one. As for the commute, I take the Herndon Metro to L'Enfant Plaza and it's about an hour. Herndon, Town Center and Wiehle Metro Stations are all about 3 minutes apart.

Our family is looking for a commuter-friendly townhome near Reston Wiehle Avenue metro station. DH works in DC and my office is in Tysons. This townhome looks updated and looks gorgeous! How is the commute into DC from this area. Is this location family-friendly? Looks like about 10 minutes walk to the metro station.
