We gave up on banks. We found a credit union - much more responsive.

I've had really good service with Ally.

Have had really good experiences with checking account at TD Bank.

Chase has always had excellent services on their credit cards.

Stay away from Wells Fargo. We just switched and it was a nightmare.
Citibank is much easier to work with. Luckily we still have accounts there so I could pay bills but Wells Fargo couldn’t even provide routing numbers to do autopay for bills.

I think all (that I know of) auto payments have to be made out of checking accounts. If the money is in savings, that has to be transferred over a minimum of 24 hours before payment hits the account.

We bank at Chase and have since 1999. We also have our brokerage accounts there, which gives us access to a designated person on both the banking and brokerage sides. Having actual people we know to call helps.

We had the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, but recently downgraded that to the Freedom card because we weren't seeing the benefit since we haven't traveled much since Covid. We use AmEx Platinum instead.

Needless to say, I want to change both bank and credit card.
Can anyone name a bank where they have experience with how the bank handles problems? And they did right by you quickly?
Does anyone recommend a credit card that is actually good to deal with if anything goes wrong?

The backstory:
I just wasted much of a week trying to get my credit card bill paid using my savings account. A problem with the bank meant that my automatic monthly payment didn't go through. So after 18 years of missing no payments, the credit card (Barclays) immediately placed a hold on my card. There was no grace period, and even a supervisor claimed there was no way to lift the hold. (Is that normal nowadays? I wouldn't know.)
I made multiple calls to customer service and frequently got wrong or insufficient information from both places.
Part of the problem is that the bank is really a CU with only 3 branches, and it would take me an hour to drive there. The shared branching no longer has a convenient place either. Grr.
