If it’s the coach I’m thinking it is, he promised the players all kinds of things, equipment, etc with the funds.

All they saw was the coach wearing fancy soccer coats with personalized initials on it. They saw none of the funds.

Parents were furious and complained but the school did nothing. Apparently, the coach is back at it again this year. I won’t give a dime.

Stop donating. Done.

If this is the school I think it is (mentioned above), they raised over $25K on a fundraiser because, uh, you all apparently have too much money. There are other teams in the county that don’t even have fundraisers and are fine. Coach probably had way more money than he needed and bought custom threads for himself AND the players. All of this gets approved by the Principal and AD, and it’s not like the coach is hiding any of it.

This is what actually needs to happen: whatever the team needs, you guys need to fundraise separately and not give a cent to the coach. If I was on the PTA executive board of that school, I would help you fundraise this parent-led effort. In our board meetings with the Principal, I would ask why this coach hasn't been required to stop. It's hard to fire people in public school, but there are many options besides firing to choke off bad behavior...

Is there a sports association you can also report to? Not familiar with the set-up here.

Coach has to look good out there. It's his time to shine.

I think that is their point. If it is happening, why be discrete about it. Call out the people involved.

There’s a high school coach in Loudoun County who spends most of the teams own funds on custom apparel. Very little of the funds actually go toward the team. A few parents confronted the AD about it in previous seasons but nothing substantial was done about it. It’s occurring again this year with said coach appearing with all new customized apparel for this coach. Many parents help raise and contribute to these funds which are supposed to be for the team. Last year it was requested to have a full transparent accounting of the funds, but it was never provided. The coach stated at a public meeting a total BS answer about where the funds were spent and nobody did anything about it. The school just ignored the complaints but it was evident that the coach was at least partially confronted about the use or it wouldn’t have come out in the meeting. Is this a common practice in Loudoun high school sports? These teams are already poorly funded by the schools and any money raised should be transparent and used for player benefit. Wouldn’t you agree?
