Yes it’s definitely a weird vibes kinda place. No warmth or depth to the school or its curriculum. Overrated

+1. Did not like the admissions process. When my DC went for his visit, the teachers were not warm or welcoming. Both times we visited, there were other kids applying who had relatives either teaching or attending the school and we got the impression it was a fairly insular social environment. Also, there were a few kids just wandering aimlessly in the halls during classes and no one seemed particularly happy to be there. We wanted to like it, because we had heard such positive things, but we just got overall weird vibes.

My child toured the woods two years ago for fifth and hated it. I didn’t think there was anything special about the place either, so we didn’t end up applying. The only families I know that have a relationship to woods are the ones who have left. I would save your money and go to your local public or parish schools.

We’ve been very happy with Woods. It’s a nurturing environment and the kids are happy. Middle school years have been great, instead of being forgotten, the middle school students are the leaders of the school. The newish head of school is wonderful, and has continued to advance academics while maintaining Catholic identity and service to others. HS placement is excellent to all Catholics and recently many independent schools. There have been classes with gender discrepancies, but with recent HS placements and 100% of kids getting into their first choice schools there seems to less “panic” among certain parents trying to get into all girl schools at younger grades, because they are worried about waiting for high school and possibly not getting in. Good luck to your family and hope your daughter finds the right fit for her.

we left because there were hardly any girls in the class and the boys were rowdy (e.g. playing football in the classroom while the teacher screamed and took recess away). I think a lot of girls leave if they can because staying until 8th reduces their options.

They go to Holy Child or SR so they can stay through high school.

A lot of the girls filter out in middle school. There should be movement at the other schools if she got waitlisted as families tend to apply to 3-4 schools and may not choose those schools as their first choice. I would wait and see if there’s movement at her top choices.

I’m not sure it’s worth the cost. I get it’s a step up, from other parochial schools in the area,but a small one. All they have is the one trip the 8th graders take and foreign language everyday that make it any different. If you look at other schools that are close by and independent, they put everything woods has to offer to shame. If you’re willing to spend 35k you can spend 43k and get a lot more for you’re money.

My daughters went in the lower grades but when we started nearing middle school, it seemed like it was a funnel and all the girls were filtered out. In 4th grade, her grade had only about 5 girls across two classes. I also second what someone said above about catholic - if you want that for high school it can be great, but if you are looking at one of the independent schools it isn't as common (e.g. they have limited connections to help with placement).

As a current parent, I think it’s definitely a step up from the parochial schools. Moving in sixth grade should depend on where you want to end up for high school. If you want to end up at a catholic high school, I would definitely move her. They have great high school placement at all the Catholics. As for independent high schools, it really depends. And it also depends on where your DC currently is. I thought the middle school years were great and so far 2 of my kids have ended up at great high schools. One is at an independent school and the other at a Catholic high school.

I havnt heard great things. I think its a slight step up from other parochial schools, but not enough to justify paying double what most of them are. They campus isn’t that great and the community is lacking. I would keep your daughter at whichever school she currently attending

I know it’s strong for the younger grades, but a lot of girls leave in got to other schools in the middle school years.

My child got into 6th grade class for Woods this year. Anyone have experience with the school? It was our last choice, but she was WL at other schools and now debating if we keep her where she is or move her.
