It's helpful. And get ready for the complaints about the dining.

our didn't have the crazy parents and when something comes up -- emergency broken tooth for us - it was a lifesaver.

I think I've posted twice in 4 years.

Join and ignore the crazy helicopter parents.

Don't overthink it, just join. You might get info useful info about when exams are over or something like that.

A few things I found helpful - the group had a spreadsheet of off campus housing that I shared with DS when he was looking. Some advice about move-in and hotel recommendations for visits. Also, heard there about a special opportunity in DS's major that he'd missed. I passed on the info so he could follow up and it turned out to be a really valuable part of his college experience.

So, yes, generally useful for information that might otherwise be missed.

Did you find the college facebook page to be similar? Has it been helpful for info? Is there a lot of negativity shared?

I'm already sort of annoyed they're asking for a picture of my son's acceptance letter via messenger. Am generally skeptical of sharing things about my family to people I don't know! At the very least I suppose I should white out his name and our street address before sending.

Thoughts?

It does offer a helpful nugget or two once in awhile. But overall, just a bunch of helicoptering and complaining.

I joined. They did not require a copy of letter. It is not used much. But, I was glad I joined when there was a lockdown and the only info came through that page. Turned out to be a false alarm.

You had to show an admission letter to join the one I am on.

I have found joining the parents FB group helpful with valuable insight but I suppose it depends on the others. There is no downside to joining so there’s that.

Oh, no. That's probably what I was trying to avoid.

You can avoid it by not reading it. I have found it useful a handful of times.

I have found both my kids' parent FB groups to be useful. I don't keep up regularly, but they are a great resource to search for certain information.
