Colleges offering spring admission commonly release students from any ED commitment that may have been made.

Same. Also Syracuse University. I’m convinced that both schools thought DD could afford the study abroad program since she didn’t submit FAFSA and would gladly take the offer.

I think it’s a money grab as these programs are very expensive. My DD was offered fall study abroad/spring start at a couple of schools but declined. Is your kid full pay? I think they know who is likely to pay up for these programs and who isn’t when making admission offers. If you aren’t applying for financial aid, you’ll likely be offered one of these pricey programs.

This is becoming more common at top schools. The reason that many of the small SLACs do it is because they have a certain number of kids going abroad every semester and it helps them fully utilize their dorm space. Congratulations, your kid got in! If it somewhere that she wants to go just grab it and run!

In that Verto has been given the imprimatur of fine schools such as Hamilton, Colgate, Richmond and Colorado College, I believe it would be wise for your daughter to consider the offer strongly. Congratulations to her!

The college emailed DD yesterday to invite her to this Verto abroad program (required for admissions to this college in spring 2027). My guess is that she is a "waitlist" for Fall, and that she is admitted for spring, if she chooses to go. They sent this email to her yesterday- prior to the formal RD release date in March.
This Verto education Abroad Program is used by the following colleges, to give you an idea: U Richmond, BU, Hamilton, colgate, Colorado College, Elon, Syracuse, UVM and a few more.

What top liberal arts school has done spring admits already?

I know kids who have done this at W&M and Northeastern. They had positive experiences and no issues transitioning and making friends.

Is the spring offer contingent on attendance at a Verto program?

It’s common for kids who barely made the cut.
