Please look into LADA - Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults. It's actually Type I diabetes that presents much later in life. Without knowing anything else about how you were diagnosed it's hard to say if this would be applicable, but my spouse was misdiagnosed 25+ years ago. Type II is so common that I don't think providers really think beyond it.
