This. Doesn’t sound well planned. It’s more to target lower SES kids for math and who needs childcare.

No way would I cancel summer travel for this. What for? 4 weeks of math when your child is doing fine. They don’t need it. Let kids be kids for the summer and travel and do fun camps.

It feels like they just bulk emailed everyone who met certain metrics. I doubt they care if anyone joins as long as they have enough to operate the program. And they'd probably be delighted if it were less affluent folks.

We got this invite for our very advanced 3rd grader. (Comes out as 6th grade on iReady, but only because that's the maximum possible.) I wrote back saying that we locked in summer plans awhile ago, but would be interested in school year programming. Even without that, I can't imagine spending 5 weeks on this during the summer without knowing anything about the quality of the programming (not to mention that none of the campuses are anywhere near us and they don't even specify which ours would be).

I did ask how it would affect the next year math.

I would be more excited about this opportunity if it was followed up by accelerated math during the school year, but that doesn't seem to be available in DCPS elementary school or the few charters I'm familiar with.

Can someone add a question to their form about what happens if you miss a week or two in between - curious if the topics build upon themselves or how it works in general. I asked for program specifics and reiterated that summers are for outdoor play and free time, so I’m not looking to make my kid even further ahead.

We got an invite. I've asked my kid's teacher for more info. If we do it, I'm not sure we will do the whole summer. I'm hoping that the camp may help my kid meet other kids with similar strengths and make new friends.

I'm not sure about that. Or if that's the case, the strategy is lame, because they sent it to kids who are very advanced in math. We got an invite for my 2nd grader who already tests into 5th grade math - I don't think it's about prepping those kids for Algebra. The kids who got invites are the kids who are already on track to do Algebra.

Received as well and very curious. Will fill out form to get more information at the very least.

(Summer planning procrastination might work out okay for once?)

Came to ask the same question. We have tentative summer plans but not sure if we should move them. Child is 2-3 grades ahead. Not sure I need them to be even more ahead. Wish there was more information! Though I do appreciate DCPS finally doing something for high-achieving students.

We just received an email from DCPS that our 4th grader is a top performing math student and they are invited to "Math Quest the Upper Elementary School Math Enrichment Summer Program at DCPS.". The program is by invitation only and will be held from June 22 – July 31, 2026, from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

So we already have summer vacation plan and although my kid is really good at math and loves math I can't imagine them doing this all summer.

I was curious if anyone was familiar with such program in DCPS?
Is it worth changing our vacation plan for this?
Can we only do a couple of weeks?
Would we be invited next time if we say No this time around?

There is a form where I could register my kid but no idea how to get answer to these questions.
