My dad who is an immigrant has many teeth lacking and many others are half rotten. He went to a dentist in his home country who told him it’s best not to touch anything as dental work would be too extensive (he is 80). I am honesty afraid to even think about it. It’s a relief he seems to be ok with it. Can’t imagine him pulling all the teeth out and having dentures.

A friend who is 70 has them, says she doesn’t eat very hard or chewy foods but otherwise she is fine

No but my grandfather did. I'm sure he had poor nutrition and worse dental care with a single mother during the depression. I know they essentially lived off the land in Northern California for a while.

My mom has a couple of implants.

No. My Grandmother did when I was growing up. My 92 YO FIL has lost a fair amount of teeth over the last few years and we told him to ask and his dentist who will fit them but he seems content to just eat softer foods and not deal with it.

No I don't think dentures are as common. At least not for middle class. Implants are more common now.

No. Mid 70s. They are from Long Island, grew up middle class in Levittown type neighborhoods and always had access to dental care.

Can people eat well with dentures?

It depends. If they fit well and are made well, of course. If they don't fit properly, it's very hard to eat anything that you have to chew on a lot.

Yes, my mother has had dentures since her mid 20s. Very bad dental care where we come from.
