Interesting, because someone posted on here that their child was offered full merit at JMU and was deciding between that college and UVA, so I thought JMU might offer a little merit like VT did

VT puts a lot of weight on their own essays on application. A strong student who doesn’t do well on them, can easily get rejected.

PP here, and ok I figured it out. I'm not seeing any numbers for any college within VT suggesting that admissions to any is easier than JMU.

If you drill down into individual majors, there are majors with 75%+ admit rates, which would be easier to get into than JMU overall but probably not for comparable majors. Also, clicking through to look at several majors, there's a pretty consistent downward trend in VT admit rates. My son's major had about an 80% in-state admit rate when he was accepted but now it's 53%. So the "easier than JMU for some majors" perception may now be outdated.

For an example in-state admit rate at VT for Mathematics (in College of Science) was 89% last year. It was similar, 88%, at JMU.

VT admits by major/college, so there are certain majors where it is easier to get into VT than JMU. For example, it is probably easier for a weaker student to get into VT to study Forestry or Early Childhood Development than to get into JMU.

Well, it's a subject of some debate on another thread, where a poster is insisting that if you're not engineering it's just as easy to get into Tech than JMU. I find that hard to believe, which is why I'm asking.

I'd appreciate hearing views/experience from FCPS parents on this issue. In the past, if anything, JMU was the tougher admit, but that seems to have reversed . . .
