BTW, I am taking a guess, but it looks like there are only Open and USA divisions on the boys' side for USAV championships. It looks like each region is allocated one USA division bid per age group (14 through 18). The boys' CHRVA Bid Regionals results are on AES. MDJRS won the 18s, 17s, and 16s/15s (combined) age groups whike Annapolis won the 14s/13s (combined) group. The Premier Nova (17s) team out of Delaware may have also earned a USA division bid at BANE.

I just looked at the CHRVA 18s Bid Regionals results and noticed MDJRS 18 Elite did not participate. Did they not meet the eligibility requirements, were they not accepted, or did they decline the spot?

Also, I’m surprised Paramount 18s finished tied for 5th (they lost to VA Juniors in the playoffs). They usually play in the Open division at qualifiers, so I expected a stronger showing at Regionals.

MDJRs 18 Elite does not appear to have even registered for 18 Bid Regionals. Looks like they would have been on the bubble to get in - they are currently ranked 12th in AES within CHRVA and 12 teams got into 18 bid regionals.

Metro filled some of the gaps on 18 Travel created by 8 players not returning from last year's 17 Travel (6 went to college early, 1 stayed at 17 Travel, and one is not playing club this season) with 5 players who moved over from Paramount and some from other clubs. I think that exodus of players, most of whom were starters at Paramount, really hurt this year's 18s. I see Paramount 18s came in 19th of 24 in 18 Open at the Florida Fest qualifier and 13th out of 14 at SEQ in 18 Open. They are registered in 18 USA at NEQ, but I'm not sure if there are other qualifiers on their schedule. If they don't get a bid at NEQ, they could still potentially get a bid from CHRVA depending how reallocations play out.

I agree BRVA is a top CHRVA club, but that has nothing to do with the rules around bid regionals. Bid Tournament play will be conducted to determine first through eighth place for 13’s – 18’s and first through fourth place for 11’s-12’s. For all age groups, if additional bids are secured after the Region’s Bid tournament, the Bid bracket finish will be used to determine which teams receive the additional bids. If there are ties in the Final Standings, the Total Point % will be used to break the tie. This is completely incorrect. The two CHRVA Championship tournaments are “bid” regional championships and the other tournament is called “non-bid”. The fundamental entrance criteria for the tournmanets is you are competing for a bid or you are not. Teams that don’t intend to attend USAV nationals if they win a bid go to non-bids, regardless of their level of play.

Pretty sure if you attend the bid championships you are committing to accept a bid if you win one or face potential CHRVA penalties for both the club and the coach.

More importantly, if BRVA did not accept their qualifier bids, why should the CHRVA region allow them in the regional bid tournament? They clearly have no interest attending USAV Nationals.

This year, USAV moved the non-bid Patriot division to a separate event (USA Volleyball Girls Junior Club Championship (GJCC)), which opened up more courts and allowed them to add more teams to the bid divisions. I believe that’s why they increased the number of bids at qualifiers. I agree—it’s better not to let the fourth-place team go home empty-handed.

Metro 15 Travel added three excellent front-row players from MD Jrs. Their starting lineup combines top players from last year’s 13th-place 14 Open Metro 14 Travel team (outside, setter, DS, and libero) and the 18th-place MD Jrs Elite Black team (outside, middle, and right side). They haven't lost a game this season. Congratulations to them!
