Unfortunately, there is no primary. There is only the party endorsement process. Only those who are part of the local democratic scene have a chance at winning a school board seat. Which means we are stuck with the ones we have or, if they decide not to run, another person with similar abilities and sense. So many of the current board are really not capable or bright but there is no hope.

I will not vote for a candidate who doesn’t present a rational schedule policy.

And, this is the problem.

While legally, it may be "non-partisan," it is more partisan than most elections. The candidates are "endorsed" by their respective political committees. The committees are more partisan than the public who vote in primaries.

The entire board is up for re-election next fall. Their terms are not staggered.

There's a special election soon in Braddock because the former school board member ran for a seat on the board of supervisors that opened up, in turn, because a former supervisor ran to fill the vacancy in Congress when Gerry Connolly died. But whoever fills that seat will be up for re-election in the fall of 2027 as well.

I'm kind of clueless here. Are all seats up for election or are only some people's terms over?

Given the consistently horrible decisions made by the last 2 school boards, I will not support a single incumbent (other than possibly Moon, though even he seems to just sit there, happy to let the circus continue without interruption).

I wanted to start this thread to keep track of who may be challenging the current School Board members next year.

Heard that someone in the Langley HS area plans to seek Robyn Lady’s seat, but no official announcement yet.

Hopefully the challengers announce sooner rather than later and build up some name recognition locally before the election.
