What about risk within the US? Worth to keep kids within driving distance from home, and out of the large cities?

Why stay away from Turkey? Just because of the recent conflict in the Middle East or do you generally think it's unsafe?

I ask that because I'm Turkish and think Istanbul (where most study abroad programs are in Turkey) is 100% safe, but I would avoid it during these uncertain times.

This week will mark the largest escalation. Turkey just sent their jets to Cyprus. They will be involved. I would not go anywhere in the eastern Mediterranean.

I would send my spoiled kid to NYU Tel Aviv or NYU Accra to show them what the real world is like. Or maybe to Northeastern when they open a sattelite campus in one of the "-stan's."

Turkey- that's a tough one. My DH is a political science prof, middle east politics specifically. If this were our kid, he'd try to convince them to study in Europe (although Istanbul is technically in Europe, of course) just to ease our minds a bit. Our kid studied in France last year, and it was an amazing experience- I'd definitely allow my child to do study abroad this year, but I'd do lots of research into where they'll study and stay.
