No impact to GA.

I am curious if this means a team from a GA club that plays in NCSL can make this playoff. For example, could SYC’s 3rd team that plays in NCSL make it? Or is it only ECNL based teams?

Yes but now some teams from this New Comp will be added. I just can’t tell if th teams are added for the state playoffs or not until the regional playoffs.

The operators of regional tier leagues have created an end of year playoffs and event for teams in those leagues. By banding together they can make a bigger national level event which can then attract more college scouts.

What does this mean in practice around here? If your team plays in NCSL, EDP, ECNL-RL, expect there to be some cross league regional playoff games and if your team wins those expect to go to a national event involving airplane travel for the final rounds. The national event will not be to the level of the ECNL/GA/MLSN events in terms of college scouts attendance but it will be better than what you’d get at typical NCSL and EDP events.

But don’t expect some magic recruiting happens because you play at these events. College coaches know it’s not the top tier and only a very small percentage of college players come from regional leagues. There are always a few diamond in the rough success stories but it’s still a narrow path.

I’m guessing ncsl will continue to promote and relegate. Doubt RL or ecnl but maybe it’ll move in that direction longer term. Ncsl formalize the relationship may limit EDP leakage.

Does this mean there will be an actual promotion/relegation system?

ECNL would need to get rid of the requirement to have both boys and girls teams in all age groups for this to work.
