^^ GMU also allows this through its non-degree program.

If your school will clear it (easy, just ask), he can take college courses during the summer at community college. My STEM kid did this with Chemistry. It demonstrated that he could handle college-level coursesand get a A. May have helped him get into UVA - UVA accepted the three college credits but not the “A”, which is standard.

UVA’s NOVA program was good for another area. Pretty sure they have stem too.

Given that you are in DMV, Hopkins has an array of summer STEM programs: https://summer.jhu.edu/areas-of-study/stem

If your kid likes the mechanics side of physics, mechanical and aerospace engineering might be something he wants to explore. If he likes the electrical side of physics, consider electrical and computer engineering. If he wants engineering with an AI flavor, ECE is probably the way to go as he could learn about machine learning, neural networks, and AI in his senior-year electives.

My sophomore is STEM oriented but really doesn't know what he'd like to do in that field. Neither parent is STEM oriented and we're having a hard time trying to find and evaluate summer programs that will help him to explore possibilities. Would so welcome recs for any programs or suggestions for how to identify and then evaluate which ones provide a good experience.
