The state standards for accreditation are not particularly tough. I don’t see any FCPS schools falling all the way to losing accreditation.

Our elementary school was in jeopardy about 7 years ago. FCPS pre-emptively made a few moves including sending the principal to another school.

At one point in past Justice High School lost accreditation; don't know what supports or options were offered at that time though. We remember being quite concerned as it was our zoned HS.

There’s the list of all the schools in FCPS. I didn’t bother copying it into Excel but I don’t think anything in FCPS is not Fully Accredited. ACPS has a few that are conditionally accredited and “intensive support.”

FCPS has a number that need intensive support as well.

The new accreditation rules were put in by Youngkin and his people. One goal: make public schools look worse so vouchers and charters and that ilk will get pushed through. If schools start losing their accreditation, ten bucks says that Spanberger will simply change the rules back to what they were. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Closest I can think of is Dogwood ES in Reston didn't meet No Child Left Behind benchmarks in the mid-00s. For a period of time, anyone zoned to Dogwood had a right to send their kids to two other elementary schools (may have been Sunrise Valley and Crossfield). Then Dogwood returned to good standing and the transfer option went away.

FYI, all schools in FCPS are currently fully accredited by the state, although some elementary schools (including Dogwood) have been flagged as needing intensive support, which means they'll get the most support and additional funds from the state.
