Ritchie Park could be a candidate for closing, as it's small and there's available capacity in neighbor schools.

Julie Yang will be off the Board by the time they vote on closures in 2027 or 2028.

it’s not half empty - it’s utilization is 70+% or so. An only maybe a 1/3 is special education - I even believe it’s utilization is higher than Travilah

Fyi you don't need to be "extremely wealthy" to afford tutors. Half of MCPS families hire tutors. The other half are the kids that don't graduate proficient in math/ELA.

Dufief. It’s 1/2 empty and 1/2 of that 1/2 is bussed in for special education.

That has nothing to do with the topic, unless you're suggesting that schools with TWI programs should be closed altogether.

He really should get rid of Two Way Immersion programs which are not the least bit effective and hinder academic reading and writing for students in the lower levels. These children (if they don't have the foundations of proper reading, writing and grammar) by the time they get to middle school, they struggle heavily. Even more so, if they have a disability. That screams Cold Spring. At least one in the Silver Spring area. I'd expect maybe another in Potomac. But I suspect just like in the 1980s closures will be accompanied by additions, reopenings, and new construction in areas of high density growth. I just hope this time they keep better control of the unused buildings.
