I’m sorry, but that’s not much of a “backdoor”….the article says the rejected students would be required to participate in a 2 year associates program! You’d have to be pretty desperate to go to BC to agree to those terms.

And the article claims 15 “of the most well-connected” applicants are chosen for this program? I find that hard to believe.

That IS the topic. There are people donating 100K to get their kid into this side funnel to BC so they have to pay BC tuition on TOP of the 100K donation.

The problem is this is not just BC. The first gen low income programs are abused at ALL top colleges. The rich families are taking advantage of this.

Stop. It’s a well-researched article, and the preference shown to donor/legacy kids should be concerning to the entire BC community. While it’s an exceptional school, this crap should be called out. Kudos to the student journalists responsible for this piece.

I read the comments and got a different impression from you.

While student newspaper writers may be still learning their craft, they often do find out surprising things. And they often go on to reputable media outlets as promising young journalists.

I will always "bother with" student newspapers and make my own conclusions after reading.

Journalists have to start somewhere. Many start in college. Breaking the story of where the admissions office tried to hide the donors’ kids is a reasonably good scoop.

The tell? The ridiculous answers offered from the AOs to the reasonable questions about how high net worth families’ kids landed in a first gen bridge program.

My favorite bit is that the unqualified backdoor kids were told they could be “leaders” to the first gen kids whose program they used for the backdoor. Bet the first gens were super grateful to the rich kids. 😜
