Children usually pick it up on their own, OP. My kid who needed Mavis Beacon has a physical disability and low processing speed. The others are very rapid typers and didn't need any training. They're in college and high school now.

Typing Club is a free program and my kids loved it

My kid is in 4th grade and is hunting and pecking around on her laptop keyboard. I was speaking with some older moms who have high school aged kids (and they go to the middle and high school she'll attend) and they stated that there isn't typing instruction. They said it was something I should teach over the summer. I'm surprised by this because DH and I were both millennials and had typing programs like Mavis Beacon when we were in school. Fast typing is also something that I use constantly at work.

How did you all teach typing and what programs did you use? I have a keyboard separate from a monitor that I plan on having her use, so she can't see her hands. The only issue is that our kids only have chrome books and DH and I only have work issued laptops (unable to install programs, but we can use them on the weekends). I'm not sure how I can download a program.
