How do you explain the other child’s behavior? Do you think that OP only set boundaries/expectations with her current 12 year old?

My autistic teen is like this. But she will apologize after she shouts at me or calls me an idiot or a weirdo. She says, “I’m sorry I was so rude. I just really don’t like it when you…”

It’s honestly hard to live with sometimes.

She sounds like a chronically online gamer type. But she’s 14 and this is somewhat typical and most of them grow out of that.

Make her go to the gym. She can walk on the treadmill on her phone but at least it’s something.

You might need consequences that are meaningful to her. I’m not hearing any actual consequences other than she loses her phone sometimes. You’re her parent and you need to require her to do chores, participate in an outside life, etc. you can do this and your child will ultimately benefit.

Her LDL and triglyercides were high and the doc asked her to do some exercise. She is not overweight but no control on what she eats. If I buy a pack of cookies, she eats half of them in a day. No reasoning with her and she does not care. She is not helpful either.

Today I was asking her to help clean the car while I shoveled and she refused. Her 12 year old sibling came with me and also helped me shovel. She also refused to make a snow man with her sibling so I had to go instead.

After shoveling and helping my younger kid we came back inside and she asked me what was for lunch and I just asked her to go help herself with whatever was in the refrigerator. She did not like the left overs so she ate cereal.

I'm at my wits end with this DC.

Does she have any redeeming qualities?

Does she have friends (in person) and how are grades? If no problems with either, I’d say normal-ish but could be addressed. If problems with eiither, I’d suspect depression.

At her age, you can still require an extracurricular activity. I would. Let her choose but she must choose something. Also limit screen time until she has completed what you want her to (including helping with chores or attending things with family etc)
