Post 02/23/2026 20:40     Subject: Boundary Study/ Program Analysis: MCPS My Future Fair - Families of Grade 3, 4, and 5 Student Informational Sessions

We had a post on this already. Technically it's not a done deal. MCPS knows that practically speaking it is a done deal because the Board members have made clear they're not going to oppose it. But it's still obnoxious for them to do something like this, which is clearly not time sensitive, at this time using language that says that it's final.

I guess a mailer to middle schoolers was deemed good enough for us. But a full fair for elementary families.

And all before this is actually approved. Wow.

Exactly, who knows how many of these programs will actually be available to current 5th graders when it is time to apply for them

Shouldn’t the be doing this with the current 7th graders who will be the fist in the regional model instead of current elementary students?

Why are they wasting parents' time with their half baked program ideas?

So does this mean the boundary study and program analysis are a done deal? Are they targeting this group betting that most dont have older siblings subject to the proposed changes?

Received this from MCPS:

Dear Grades 3-5 Families,

Imagine the possibilities for your student’s future! You are invited to attend the MCPS My Future Fair - Informational Session to learn more about proposed high school regional programs and academic pathways available to your student in the years ahead.

While high school may seem far away, becoming familiar with academic opportunities early helps families and schools work together to plan for student success in middle school, high school, and beyond.

Beginning in the 2027–2028 school year, MCPS high school students will have expanded regional program options, from engineering and medical sciences to the arts, humanities, and leadership programs, in addition to their local high school course offerings. Join us for an evening of information-sharing and get your questions answered about what options may be available to your student.

Already have a student in 6th grade and above? Don’t worry, we will have information sessions for you in the coming weeks.
