If I had a boyfriend with a roach apartment I wouldn’t step foot in it. When my sister was 16 she got a job in the kitchen of a hospital. They had an infestation of roaches she one time some landed in her backpack straight to our house. They multiple quickly. My mother said she almost had a nervous breakdown trying to get rid of them. I now carry that fear with me and won’t go anywhere with known roaches.

Don't do it yet until you are sure. Tell her about the cost. It's a real problem today. If you stay together you can find something more costly but can share the expense.

Dude. Do you want a girlfriend or not?

You can have your roaches, or you can have a girlfriend. Roaches are cheaper than a girlfriend, but most people prefer the girlfriend to roaches. That's what I'd pick at least.

But it's up to you. You pick roaches, well, enjoy your roaches.

In a vacuum I would not, but if you get serious about this person it's fully reasonable for them to want to find a new place together instead of moving into your apartment. And then you have to consider which is more important to you.

Yep, this is a situation that given the other residents there is not mitigating roaches in your apartment.

You bring home 11,200/month and pay 2,200 in rent. But you are providing no visibility on total expenses. Also, how much would a nicer place cost?

I would find a good exterminator myself and at least shield your place. The problem with the type of building you live in is that although it could be 3 prs in 2 bedroom, you may find 5. So the plumbing is often not adequate.

I think this is a bigger question than just this apartment. It's possible that you and what I am taking is a new dating person (sentence was unclear) you might not be on the same page in terms of lifestyle. Some people just need/want a more gracious living situation than one that has noticeable roaches. I understand they are pretty much unavoidable entirely, but the question is realistically how often do you see them?

You have been good at making money. Why stop? The more the better.

There are so many ways you will spend your money in a way that will make your family proud and happy. You can set a scholarship etc

I take home $11200/month and my rent is $2200 per month. I don't line in a nice building and apartment but the area is very safe and near Costco, restaurants, etc...

There is a 2 years wait list to live here. Despite the roaches and perhaps the ethnic/demographic background of most tenants that some may have an issue with the place is a steal.

So I don't want to leave. Now recently I started recently and she hates coming to my place. She doesn't like the building, she doesn't like that from time to time it needs to be treated for roaches and I feel like at some point she may suggest we move in together or I find a better place.

Folks only paying $2200 rent on a take home pay of $11200 I won't move. And I am not even thinking about buying a house unless I get expelled from this place lol.

Would you move to a "nicer" place if your rent was this low.
