I never knew that it was up to the Speaker of the House to decide who gets to lie in honor at the Capitol. This is not something that I would have thought twice about under a different, less partisan administration — that doesn’t even attempt to represent We The People. I’m somewhat surprised to learn that this honor wasn’t granted to Dick Cheney. Mike Johnson is building an interesting legacy for himself.

I liked Jackson but there was no reason why he should have been given this privilege. It was denied for Dick Cheney and he served as VP for eight years.

Dick Cheney was denied because he and Liz came out strongly against Trump. Mike Johnson was serving Trump with that decision.

Billy Graham did not deserve it. Maybe he deserved honors from religious institutions, but not the federal government.
The choices have a political component. Oh well.

But, why all the sudden love for Jesse Jackson? He was maligned by many people democrat and republican. The only thing anyone ever heard about Jesse Jackson in recent memory was because his son, who has the same name, was caught up in campaign fraud as a congressman.
That's all you have heard.
Such ignorance. Claiming that your knowledge is the limit of reality. But what can you expect from MAGA. Education was never their strong suit.

With many of us it’s not “sudden”. I’m (OP) a 3rd generation DC native. I remember programs like PUSH, Operation Breadbasket, the Rainbow Coalition and admiration for his political activism. I remember proudly exclaiming: “I am somebody “ when Rev Jackson came to speak to students at my high school.
tldr: Don’t assume that “anyone” shares your experiences, your viewpoints, or your limitations.
