There is a 2 tiered system at SJC. The athletes and the others.

Sure it does. Boys who want to play football won't apply. My son didn't apply because he knew he couldn't play baseball there.

Why do you assume student athletes are dumb?

Because most are. There are a minority of students who are strong academic performers, but that is extremely rare.

Antiquated thinking. The world has changed. Colleges have learned that robust athletics programs enhance school culture. This is no different, just at the high school level. Anyone that knows SJC knows it's a large school with diverse offerings and strong academics.

SJC is a big school. Maintaining strong athletics in parallel to other programs is much more doable when you have ~1300 students.

Maybe there is a sports requirement and more kids would like to play the sport than they have room for in the current program. They may double roster some kids, they could get rid of the JV or freshman team to minimize the cost of an additional team.

I don’t think it affects admissions and if so, it only helps.

Not true. There are all sorts of programs at SJC. A huge number of kids are in the cadet corps program, which the school strongly supports.

I have 2 non athletes at SJC. This has not been our experience. The music program is very well funded and provides experiences comparable to those given to athletes (competitions, trips, etc.). The theater department also is very popular and well run.

Of course. They’ll comprise the other tier. The school needs a core group of these to maintain accreditation

I've heard the football team is moving to a National and Regional team model for the upcoming season with the expectation that over 70 new players will be enrolled. How does this affect admissions numbers for 2026? How does this affect others sports at the school and admissions going forward?
