VT plays second fiddle in its state, too.

These would be my considerations:

1. whichever is the least expensive/best value
2. whichever he is genuinely excited to attend
3. VT because it is the highest rank in the field

How do people like you survive in a world that’s not always black and white?

My sister went to NC State and loved it. She has a reading/writing disability and got through unscathed as a science major by carefully picking her classes and using campus support resources.

Probably VT. I think its engineering reputation is better. Though MSU maybe has better connections for auto industry (just guessing, I don’t know) due to location.

I’m a Spartan and I wouldn’t trade my time at MSU for anything. That said, there’s something about the profile of your son that’s saying Tech. MSU is really big and he will need more than the honors college to make it feel smaller. Factor in flights, summer storage and clothing and the price difference is likely negligible.

Let him go where he wants BUT he must make a list of clubs he will check out before moving in and getting accommodations in place is required

If he likes VT, let him go to VT. I honestly don’t know anything about MSU but I doubt they have better supports just because your son would be in the HC - they’re another big public school. Would he even stick with HC? How many students remain in it after their first year?

If you’re really concerned about support, contact the Disability Services office at each school to determine what they offer.

My son was accepted to all 3. Super smart but has ADhd and very introverted. He has good stats but not crazy good and still surprised he got into tech/nc state because his friends with higher stats didn’t. He wants VT or nc state mainly because I think Vt seems familiar and he likes the prestige of the engineering ranking. MSU gave him lots of merit and honors college and it’s actually cheaper than instate tech now. We visited and he liked the midwestern vibe. People seemed happy.

MSU seems to be a solid engineering school and with the honors college, maybe it would make a big school smaller and have more supports and the opportunity to have smaller class sizes. The other 2 just seem more intense and a weed-out culture in an already intense major.
Any MSU fans? Anyone think we are crazy for thinking VT is not the best school for kids with ADHD/introversion? Any success stories for VT with a kid who probably needs more supports?
