Honestly I feel like a horrible dorm with great roommates is awesome and an amazing dorm with terrible roommates is awful. It’s the people match that matters.

Fancy schools that spend too much money on facilities and not enough on education.

Names?

Wash U is known to have some of the best dorms in the country. A friend's kid who graduated 10 years ago says her dorm mattress was nicer than any she's had since.

How do they decide to change out the mattress? And how often? Who decides? Do students report worn out mattress to some authority on campus (lol)?

MIT McCormick Hall. East Tower. Sadly closing for 2 years for renovations.

Where will those kids go?

Most students don't live in the same dorm for multiple years unless the college has a "house" system. They will go live with sophomores in sophomore dorms.

Which colleges offer singles to freshman in a suite style?

Been on lots of tours where there are dorms with 3 people to a room. That seems like a lot in terms of always having people around, keeping things clean, keeping issues(probably about keeping things clean or sleep schedule) to a minimum.

However, DC was in a dorm with no singles last year and found it vastly more social than current dorm as those with singles do not keep their doors open or spend much time in common areas.

Some schools have very nice dorms. Most are dreary small cell blocks with two twin beds, dressers, desks, and wardrobes. It's a rite of passage and nbd vs. the education. Normally dorm options improve each year and students can get singles senior year if they want.
