I've posted this here before but Longwood is not UVA or Tech. It is a great fit for some kids- who want a smaller school with resources for those that need it. The professors know the kids names and you are not just a number. No huge lectures, etc. It has been great for my kid- far enough where he has to be independent but not so far that we couldn't get to him if he were to have some sort of emergency. They also guarantee an internship in your major and have opportunities for research for those that want that challenge. There are tons of students organizations- club sports, etc and the university does a great job of having activities for kids to do on the weekends. My kid is an introvert so has no interest in partying, etc but it is there for those who want that. They have lots of "traditions" like Spring Weekend, secret societies, etc. Like any college, there are kids that go crazy their freshman year and don't return.

Dc graduated 2 yrs go. They found a friend group, all of whom graduated in 4 yrs and all employed by July/ aug of that year. All said they were happy there.

It is small but continues to grow. A lot of kids come from Richmond area and below - that part of state. It was good for one of our dcs who was a good but average student, has friends but not really in to a lot of drinking and parties.

A lot of clubs and ways to be involved. Some cute traditions that start things off well. I think the quality of education is strong for liberal arts and environment is positive. It really is so personal to student’s strengths, wants, and personality.

Other dc went to very large and highly regarded university. Neither choice surprised us and both doing well!

Nothing was against the law. It was *previously* a dry county. It's not now. But there's a mindset.

Law enforcement, the small town atmosphere can be punitive. It was previously a dry county (no alcohol allowed) I wouldn't want that for an ordinary acting college student. Friend's DD was hassled, threatened with arrest. She had just left a college party with a group of girlfriends and were walking back to their dorm. All were 21.

The 25% that don’t return probably transferred to uva, VATech, or jmu

Your point is that it is a bad school made up of loser kids? Where do you get this stat from?

Are there sport opportunities for kids who aren't recruited?

Mine is a sophomore and has had a good experience so far. He has found his people and enjoys his classes. Lots of resources and supports for those that need them.Farmville is a cute little town, but it is very rural.

Can anyone with recent experience speak to the social vibe at Longwood? Is your child happy there?
