Wow, you are paying her pennies for all this work, and now trying to add on more? Yikes.

How do they get there? Do they have to drive? Do they take your car? Do they take their own car? Is the vehicle equipped with safety equipment? If using their own vehicle do you compensate them for wear and tear, mileage or gas? Do you have a membership to the rec center or are you expecting the sitter to pay? What kind of liability do you have if the sitter or child is injured either on the way to/from or at the center/park?

Just one kid or multiple?

How far and what is the weather?

Regular Sitter, Adult(Neighbor helping out), one, we’re in the DMV so it’s been cold but it’s warming up.

Generally I would say yes. That taking kids to the park is well within the scope of a regular sitter.

My one question is that you are paying well below market rate and you describe it as “helping out”. If this is a win/win type situation where you get the benefit of paying under market rate, and she gets other benefits including working close to home, then it may be a dynamic where you don’t want to rock the boat or jeopardize a good thing. In that case I might ask if she is willing, but be open to the answer being no.

Is asking a sitter to take a toddler to nearby parks/recs centers during their babysitting shift out of line or to be expected?

Pay is $20/hr.
