Maybe it was just luck of the draw about how big the numbers were or maybe it was due to some perception of Janney by the privates as being privileged and not their mission for public school admits.
One lesson learned--apply and apply again. My kid did not get into their first choice school when applying in 6th grade from Deal, elected to stay at Deal and applied again for 9th (3rd application to this same private school--applied from DCPS for 6th, 7th and 9th) and got in. There was a lot of this among friends. You often have to apply multiple times.

Another kid went to Sidwell and maybe 4 went to Landon. At least 8 applied to STA (mine was one of them) and none got in and one that I know of applied to NCS/Holton and did not get in either schools. A few moved to Montgomery Co and a few went to K-8s and that's about it.
Point of my post is that it's not easy to get in to private following DCPS elementary school. There are a lot of kids who try and few are chosen. Kids had better luck from Deal the following year and I wondered if it was because the privates perceive that Deal as being a "rougher" and they're more open to taking them. They don't want to fill their very few "public school spots" (and they probably have some sort of target they aim for in an admissions season) with privileged upper NW kids. Although frankly Deal is only a few degrees different than Janney.
Really interesting observation here. (Meant earnestly, not sarcastically). Bizarre that Deal is seen as rough!

1. approximately what percentage of their classmates went on to private MS?
2. do any elementary schools send more kids to a specific set of privates and if so, which privates are they?
