Don’t worry, we don’t want anyone from Virginia to join us in Maryland, so the feeling is mutual. If the president wants to dilute the power of northern Virginia, I agree with the suggestion above that he should consider merging Virginia with West Virginia. It’s redundant to have two virginias anyways.

I don't think most of Virginia would be down with that.

Let's just get rid of Virginia. Fairfax, Alexandria, and Arlington can join Maryland, and the rest of Virginia can join with West Virginia.

Funny, OP — you don’t bother to ask whether or not residents in MD would be happier.
I’d go with: No!

Moving the already blue counties and cities of NoVA to MD would join them with other blue counties in a deep blue state so they can have the policies they seem to want.

Retrocede Arlington into DC, give Wilmington, DE to PA and the entirety of the Delmarva peninsula to MD, and made DC state. Everyone - bar the DE state legislature, governor and US senators - is happy.

What an absurd thought. No way in hell would I (or many other Virginians) want to be a part of MD.

Some counties in eastern Oregon want to leave and hoin Idaho instead.

A difference from the DMV scenario is that the geography of eastern Oregon is more like Idaho, while the geography of western Oregon is quite different from eastern.

I heard on a podcast that there are actually Republicans talking about trying to do this to make Virginia winnable again.

Maryland would be happy to collect the sales tax. RoVA will never let that happen.

On one hand they would solidify the rest of VA as Republican. On the other hand they'd have to pay for their own crap instead of mooching off NoVA...

They could retro-retrocede Arlington back to DC.

Or maybe the areas in question would rather join WVA?
