Following this closely, waiting for someone to comment on VT's career services.

IT's not crazy. UVA is a public university with limited resources. If you want service for a first year, then go private. This is also true with UVA admissions when people complain why it isn't faster - you can't compare the services of public to private. Public schools operate on their own schedules and budgets.

Not all private schools offer services for first years, either. When budgets are cut, career services often is one of the first places they make cuts. UVA probably has a better-staffed career center than most privates.

Daughter is a freshman at W&M and went to the resume workshop last week, then used what she learned to update her resume. Seemed to be a big improvement to me.

She was also going to go to a business etiquette dinner, but not enough people signed up for it, unfortunately, so it was postponed.

Why wouldn’t they prioritize the older kids?

UVA was great for my son. Helped him find three internships each summer and final job. You didn't ask but GMU's was great for another child.

My son is just getting started with using the career center at William and Mary, but says the staff is friendly and helpful. He’s using them for resume construction right now. They seem to offer a lot of services. https://www.wm.edu/offices/career/students/advising-topics/

Would love to hear about your child’s experience with the career centers at UVA, William & Mary, or Virginia Tech.

- Did they actually use it?
- What services were most helpful (internships, resume help, recruiting, networking)?
- Did it meaningfully help with internships or job placement?
- Was support proactive or mostly student-driven?

I’m especially interested in how effective the support felt in practice — not just what’s listed on the website.
