Is it a boy or girl? I think you said both. 60th percentile in both height and weight is perfect. From this age forward weight will fluctuate a few pounds up or down. It won’t always coincide with gaining height.

This is what I would suggest too. do your best to do it healthfully. Cooking eggs in butter or oil instead of spray, adding nuts or nut butters to baked oatmeal for breakfast instead of sugary cereal. You can add a ton of calories to a chocolate smoothie with banana, peanut butter, avocado, cacao powder.

Unless you think she’s internationally not eating I wouldn’t worry about it.
My kid takes Ritalin now which is an appetite suppressant. She’s lost about 4-5lbs but is still within normal range and has a great activity level and is sleeping well..

The fact that the pediatrician wants to see your DD again in a month suggests she’s pretty concerned, presumably either about an eating disorder or an underlying illness that could cause unintentional weight loss. In your shoes, I’d just keep a somewhat closer eye on DD and make sure she is getting snacks before and/or after her sport. And I would keep the one month appointment.

My DS (17) had his annual physical last week, and I was surprised by how many questions the doctor asked about his weight and eating habits. He’s been in the 95+ percentile for height all along, but has gone from the 99% in weight as a toddler (he weighed 30 lbs at 1 and 40 lbs at 2!) slowly down to the 85%. He’s now 6’2” and 160 something. She seemed concerned that he knew to eat nutritious food vs. junk food, and told him he needed to increase his calorie intake when he increases his sports intensity. We assured her that he eats a massive amount of mostly healthy calories. I assume they must take these weight percentiles quite seriously given that he looks muscular and not particularly thin.

My daughter turned 8 a couple months ago and just hit 40 lbs! She isnt a picky eater at all and has no problem trying different foods. She has a very high metabolism. On top of that, its a pain in the rear trying to find clothes (especially pants) in her size. To give you an example, most of her shorts are 5T's.

Anyone else with small/skinny kiddos and how difficult is it for you to find clothes in their size?

This happened with my daughter but she lost more weight than that. She wasn’t eating enough so we focused on getting her eating more and a lot of healthy fats - avocado, hummus, nut butters, smoothies with yogurt etc. She did gain the weight back.

My 8 yr old (and I) got a big lecture from the pediatrician at her last appointment because, while she'd gained weight and height, the doc felt her growth rate for weight was slowing too much. But she eats plenty, has lots of energy, plays sports, and sleeps well. So it's not really clear what we are supposed to *do* about it. We've started offering higher calorie add ons to meals and snacks (mostly in the form of glasses of whole milk, smoothies with protein, etc.) and maybe it's helping?

I don't really know what else to do. Obviously I care about my kid's nutrition, but it doesn't seem like there is anything wrong, so it's baffling.

I will report back for sure! Thanks for sharing.

Mine wasn't dropping at that age, but was very very skinny so I did some add-ons like that. Ped is happy with his current weight, which is closer to 45-50th percentile instead of 30.

I forgot to add it was also a busy year and he had added 2 calorie burning sports (swimming and basketball every week), whereas before he had done lower energy sports like baseball. So we were intentional about trying to add some extra calories.

That’s really tough.

My 9yo is also small (52” tall, around 53 lbs).

I try to get her to eat high calorie foods, but there’s only so much we can do.

The kid can put away 5 slices of a large Potomac Pizza by herself and gain zero weight.

OP here! She eats pretty well. I cook most nights and she will clean her plate usually. Always try to have a protein, carb, and veg. She will generally hit the carb harder than the other elements but will eat everything. If anything, she probably eats too much junk like cheez its but we also serve a lot of fruits and vegetables as snacks. She has a lot of energy, has never been a great sleepver but does not seem tired, and is very active at her sport.

My 9 year old had her check up today. Despite getting taller, she has lost 3 pounds since July. She is perfectly porportionate - 60% for both height and weight - but the pediatrician wants to see her again in a month. Anyone dealt with this? She has not quite hit puberty yet but is definitely on the taller side of her friends.
