For DCPS, the role is the 504 coordinator.
Google the name of your child's school and "504 Coordinator" and you will find out who to reach out to.

Next - send an email that your child's pediatrician had referred your child for an evaluation and your child has an ADHD diagnosis. That their ability to access the general education curriculum to the same extent as nondisabled students is impacted and you would like a meeting to understand the process for your child getting accommodations to enable them to access the general education curriculum.

It is very important that you ask for a meeting as DCPS needs to meet within 15 days of your requesting the meeting - but is really good at making excuses as to why now is not a good time.

. Off topic but who did you go to for the neuropsych evaluation and did your child go willingly? I have suspicions about my teen bit think the would not agree to do something like this so trying to four out how to even approach.

We reached out to the high school counselor, sent the diagnosis, and in 2 weeks had the 504 meeting and they said she was approved and sent us the plan for signature a few days later and said it was shared with the teachers. Much easier than expected for DCPS high school. They also recommended we do 504 because much easier process than IEP.

IEP are more intensive than 504. My DS, also with ADHD, never had more than a 504 plan.

The 504 plan was reviewed every year and adjusted accordingly as he got older. This started when he was in elementary school and carried through MS/HS.

Your school will have a 504 coordinator to email. If you can't easily find that person, email a counselor to ask.

Does your kid already have an IEP or 504 plan? If so, contact the people who developed it. If not, the school psychologist or principal should be able to tell you how to get the process started. The school handbook probably has a section on special ed services. Wrightslaw is a good general website, and advocates for justice in education is a dc- specific organization.
